Fees & Scholarships

Fees

Full-time students will pay compulsory annual tuition and incidental fees for the degree of M.Env.Sc. in 2011-2012 (i.e. one year full-time fees from September to August). Annual tuition fees (not including incidental fees) are:

• $9,463 per year for domestic students (SGS Fee Information for Domestic students)
• $25,826 per year for international students (excludes mandatory health insurance coverage, SGS Fee Information for international students )

Fees are subject to change at any time by the University’ s Governing Council; go to the School of Graduate Studies for further information (SGS Fee Information). Costs associated with the field camp (EES1108) are estimated at $1500 per person in total, but vary each year, depending on the duration and location of the camp. Additional field trips within the Greater Toronto Area incur minimal costs.

Students who undertake their studies on a part-time basis are required to pay at least the same amount of tuition for their degree as a full-time student. Many part-time students must pay a balance of degree fee prior to graduation.At the time of graduation, the balance of degree fee is calculated by subtracting the total minimum academic fees paid by the student from the program fee. If a student has paid more than the full-time program fee due to the time taken to complete the degree requirements, there will be no refund of fees.

Financial Support

Students applying to the M.Env.Sc. Program at UTSC are eligible for financial support from UTSC in the form of:

• ENTRY SCHOLARSHIPS: upon application to the program, every student is considered for a scholarship on a competitive basis
• TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS: a number of assistantships are available within the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences and graduate students within the department are given priority.All new and continuing M.Env.Sc. students are eligible to apply for these postings. See Winter 2012 TA positions for a listing of the available departmental positions. Please note application deadlines.
• RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS: externally and internally funded Research Assistantships will be available to applicants wishing to pursue Program I, the Research Paper Option.
• ONTARIO STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (OSAP) FUNDS. These funds are restricted to Ontario Residents (Ontario Student Loan) and/or Canadian Residents (Canada Student Loan). Non-residents of Ontario are eligible for Canada Student Loans through their home province/territory. For more OSAP information, please visit the website at: OSAP.

There are a number of other sources of external funding that students should be aware of and should apply for; many of these must be applied for in a student’s 4th undergraduate year, prior to their application to graduate school, and will be processed through the student’s current university:

• NSERC SCHOLARSHIPS (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada): these scholarships are restricted to permanent residents of Canada.
• CANADIAN STUDENT LOAN: to apply for these you will need to be a permanent resident of Canada

Students in their fourth year, who are considering applying to the M.Env.Sc. Program, are urged to apply for NSERC and OGS scholarships through their own university, prior to submitting their application. Please check the deadlines at your own university as these occur in the fall.
