The Simpson Research group conducts research in the area of environmental organic geochemistry. We use advanced analytical methods to study and understand environmental and geochemical processes at the molecular-level.

We use Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) techniques to elucidate the structure and environmental reactivity of organic matter in soils, sediments, and water. Understanding the structural information allows us to study how organic matter interacts with problematic, environmental contaminants and the transformation of organic matter compounds in soil and sedimentary environments.
