This program
permits students to integrate an important area into their existing
academic studies. New
media are increasingly
important in online learning and as sources of academic information.
Using new media
to their fullest extent requires understanding of the capabilities and
limitations of these media, and how to use them in ways which go beyond
what is feasible with conventional media (print, graphics, video etc.)
A deeper understanding of new media can be valuable for those wishing
to undertake further academic study (for using new media in the classroom,
for creating educational websites and CD-ROMs), as well as those wishing
to use their academic learning in a non-academic career.
Combining the strengths of UTSC and Centennial College in this area allows
students to get the best of both worlds to obtain an Honours degree
and a certificate within four years of study plus one semester. In this new
collaborative program, students have to master the techniques necessary
to use new media, but more importantly, to learn about the capabilities
and limitations of using these media to achieve desired purposes within
their academic programs.
It is important to note that the New Media program must be taken in combination
with another Major program in another field.
Students will earn a four-year B.A. degree taking courses at both UTSC
and Centennial College, and may undertake a field placement, and a professional
practice course to also qualify for a certificate in New Media Design
from Centennial College.

the program and administrative issues, see the Frequently
