Opportunities

Post-doctoral researchers

IBN group members have supported post-doctoral researchers funded through NSERC, NSF (International post-doctoral research fellowship), and the Ford Foundation. Other possible sources of funding include competitive internal University of Toronto fellowships and Canadian commonwealth post-doctoral fellowships (for citizens of certain commonwealth countries). Interested individuals are invited to contact any IBN group member to discuss opportunities.

Graduate students

We seek applications from motivated, independent, and well-qualified students interested in pursuing graduate work. Prospective students should contact the individual(s) whose work most closely matches their interests. Opportunities exist for cross-lab multidisciplinary projects.

Members of the IBN group are based in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough. We are also members of the tri-campus graduate faculties of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (Andrade, Boonstra, Fitzpatrick, Lovejoy, Mason) and Cell and Systems Biology (Boonstra, Lovejoy, Mason, Reid). All graduate students are admitted to one of these two Departments via a central admissions process.

For information about admission to graduate programs at the University of Toronto, including deadlines, see:

All students accepted into graduate programs at the University of Toronto receive a funding package that includes a guaranteed minimum income of $21,215/year for Canadian students or permanent residents or $28,300/year for international students (2006/2007). This stipend is derived from a combination of sources: scholarships and fellowships, teaching assistantships and support from the research supervisor's grant.

All applicants are encouraged to apply for any financial support for which they are eligible. Possible funding sources include:
