Facilities
The IBN group maintains facilities supporting a wide range of research on animal behaviour and its underlying mechanisms and evolution. Core labs of the IBN are housed in adjoining space that includes common facilities as well as lab-specific experimental areas to create a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Equipment ranges from tools for video analysis to neurophysiology and molecular genetics.
Genetics
- PCR, cloning, DNA sequencing facilities
- in situ hybridizations
- computational facilities for bioinformatics and phylogenetic analysis
Behavioural analysis
- computer-based event recorder and video analysis systems (Noldus Observer, Ethovision)
- high-speed video and motion analysis
- laser vibrometry
- small-animal respirometry
- dedicated testing and experimental rooms
Neuroethology
- intracellular neurophysiology recording rigs
- acoustic and vibrational calibration, stimulus generation and recording
- small-animal treadmill for recording locomotor responses
- microscopy
Animal housing
- controlled-environment chambers for invertebrate housing
- dedicated aquatics facility
- wash/storage facilities.
