Environmental Geology of Urban Areas

Edited by: Nicholas Eyles, 608 pp., 1997

This volume contains 39 chapters, written by 67 contributors who are well-know experts in their field. Ten themes examine
environmental geology issues in Canada's urban areas, such as contamination of ground and surface waters, pollution and
erosion of urban waterfronts, waste disposal, contaminated substrates, geological hazards, public health issues, remediation of
contaminated sites, investigative techniques, and environmental assessment legislation. It is primarily intended for senior
undergraduates and graduate students. Many of the papers are state-of-the-art summaries and will be essential reading for
professional environmental geologists already working in urban areas. It is hoped that the lay reader, urban planner and
business person can also learn something of the environmental geology problems associated with Canada's urban areas. An
extensive glossary of commonly used terms is included.
