Medical Emergencies

There is no concise list of what to do in all emergencies. There are however, basic guidelines:

If you feel unwell:

  1. Tell someone near you that you feel ill.
  2. Never isolate yourself if you are choking on something.
  3. If you are on medication place it in front of you.
  4. Do not leave your desk if you feel faint. Stay in an open area.
  5. Call the Campus Police Emergency Number at 416-287-7333. The dispatcher will activate the Emergency Medical Response Group and contact Campus Police.
  6. SCREAM for help if you have to.

If you become aware of someone being unwell:

  1. Move quickly to their side and ask them if they require assistance.
  2. If they are unconscious, check their airway (mouth and throat) to ensure that it is clear of any obstructions.
  3. Call the Campus Police Emergency Number at 416-287-7333 or 911 and ask for medical and fire department assistance.
  4. Do not start CPR unless you are certified to do so.
  5. If you are not qualified SHOUT for someone who is.
  6. Keep the victim warm and dry until assistance arrives.

In the event of non-fire emergencies where immediate assistance is vital (i.e. medical emergency) activating the pull station will result in security and fire department response to the area in question.
