Rules

  1. Eye protection is strongly recommended for all players.
  2. All players must be present at the courts 10 minutes before game time.
  3. Penalty for players not arriving by scheduled game time: are 1 game defaulted (5 minutes late), 2 games defaulted (10 minutes late), and 3 games defaulted (15 minutes late).
  4. Any player DEFAULTING 4 MATCHES during the course of the league (even if their captain was contacted) will be replaced by a spare.
  5. Best 3 out of 5 games. International rules are followed.
  6. Players should be suitably dressed to play squash...non-marking shoes & neat attire are mandatory.
  7. Players must play in their teams' proper rank order.
  8. One serve only rule (all lines are considered out of bounds).
  9. All turnings are automatic lets (do not hit the ball in this situation).
  10. "LET POINTS" should be awarded automatically and if there is any dispute it shall be played as a let.
  11. There will be a maximum of 90 seconds interval between games.
  12. (i) Match must be played in the forty minute time period. Player leading at the knock on the door, is awarded that game. If game is tied at that point, no game is awarded.

(ii) When play is interrupted by knock on door, players must continue rally until its completion.

  13. If match ends early please play for FUN until the end of the 40-minutes period.
  14. Player shall report game results to team captain before leaving courts.
  15. One point will be deducted from team total points for each match that is defaulted. Rather then default, the player should get a substitute from spares list.
  16. Teams that need a spare, are only allowed to use the same person once as a spare throughout the entire season. If this person is used more then once, a default for that match will be given. In the event of long-term injury, the captain must contact the convenor and a decision will be made. In fair play, please try and get a sub of equal playing calibre.
  17. "NO SHOW" = Any player who does not contact his/her captain, the opponent, the opposing team's captain, or the Service Counter by phone or in person that he/she will not be in attendance.

"NO SHOW" penalty = If a player has more than two "no shows", he/she will not be able to participate in the league for ONE YEAR at the league convenor's discretion.

  18. During the playoff rounds, substitute players are not permitted except in the case of injury or vacation. You must notify Ron and he will give you a list of available subs based on rankings.
  19. In the event of a tie during the playoffs, the following procedure will be used to determine the winner. (i) Head to Head: The Head to Head procedure is looking at each match that is played and determining which team has won more matches then the other. If teams are still tied then (ii) Points for/points against will be looked at (regular season final standings)
  20. Challenges within a team: players may challenge teammates directly above them in the team’s order. Once a challenge has been made, the game must be played within 2 weeks or the player that made the challenge will automatically switch levels with the player above them. You are only allowed to challenge players 1 level above (ie: level 6 challenge a level 5). A player may only challenge once during the term. Ron must be notified if players switch positions by Friday at 5pm before the Monday match. You are not allowed to switch positions unless a match has been played.
  21. The double yellow dot ball is the official ball of the league.

If you have any other questions or comments about the squash league or the squash program, please do not hesitate to contact me. Call Ron Crozier at 416-287-7097.
