What does it take to be a great teacher? UTSC anthropologist Larry Sawchuk, who won a 2013 U of T President's Teaching Award, has some thoughts after more than 30 years in the classroom - "I try to inject as much humour into my lectures as possible." He also skillfully weaves in illuminating case studies from his own research on health and disease in Gibraltar and Malta. Most importantly, he says, "I want my students to take away transferable skills. I'm not obsessed with memorization, rather, i'm more concerned if my students can write and think critically."
