Summer Residence

Summer residence is available from May to August. Stay for the full session or for a shorter-term of at least 8 weeks. 

Summer residents enjoy the convenience of living a short walk from classes and other amenities during the beautiful summer months on campus. Residence life activities provide opportunities for residents to engage with their peers and help them feel at home in a safe, fun, and inclusive community.

Undergraduate students living in summer residence are placed in single or shared bedrooms in Harmony Commons, single bedrooms in Joan Foley Hall, or single bedrooms in townhouses (subject to availability). Students living in Harmony Commons will be enrolled in a mandatory all access style meal plan.

Graduate students living in summer residence are placed in townhouses.

Please note that room placements and room types offered is subject to change.

• Individual Upper Year undergraduate or Graduate student University of Toronto students enrolled in a degree program.
• For the Summer session only, students may be enrolled in a minimum of one course, or be completing a co-op work term. Graduate students may be completing a research term.
• Students cannot be on academic suspension.
• Previous residents must have demonstrated good conduct in residence to be readmitted, and all residence fees from the previous session must be paid.
• Students from a visiting post-secondary institution enrolled in a full-time degree program that are studying, completing research, or working on a co-op term in Scarborough. Documentation will be requested to confirm your study status.

Fees

Summer Residence fees are found on the Fees webpage.

A $250.00 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit, paid through the Summer application in the StarRez Portal, is required to accept your residence offer and secure your space. The deposit is applied as a credit towards the balance of your residence fees.

Next steps after submitting your residence application

• You will receive an email containing your summer residence offer. Monitor your UToronto email or email account on file with the University. Offers will be sent out on a rolling basis beginning in early April.
• Follow the steps in your offer email to pay your $250 deposit through the StarRez Portal to accept your offer. Once you have paid your deposit, your space in residence is confirmed.
• Room assignments are emailed by the last week in April for full summer stays or May & June session stays
• Room assignments are emailed by June 21 for July & August session stays
• Changes to applications for full summer and May & June session stays can be made until April 8, 2024. To make changes to your application for July & August, email Student Housing & Residence Life. All changes must be requested in writing with at least 2 weeks' notice.

Transition Period for Current Winter 2024 residents

Students living in residence for the Winter 2024 session are eligible to request to stay for the transition period between the Winter and Summer sessions from April 27 to May 4 for an additional cost. Only students registered for both sessions are eligible, and their Summer session must have a move in date of May 5. The request form becomes available within the StarRez Portal Summer application after your offer is emailed to you and your summer deposit has been paid. 

Students who do not stay for the Transition Period between sessions must move out of their Winter residence space 24 hours after their last exam or by April 27 at 12pm, whichever comes first. They must take all their belongings with them,

Storage between sessions is not available.

Summer residence cancellations and early withdrawal

Cancellations: Email your name, student number, and brief reason for cancellation to residence.utsc@utoronto.ca at least 2 weeks before your scheduled move in day. The $250.00 deposit is non-refundable and non-transferrable to other fees on the ACORN account.

Withdrawals: After May 5, or, after your partial-session stay move in day, the Summer Residence Withdrawal Policy applies. In room students and students who provide written notice after May 5, who wish to withdraw early from their contract dates will be subject to a $700 withdrawal fee, and a late notice fee if at least two weeks' notice are not provided.
