Neil ten Kortenaar’s research is on literature from Africa, the Caribbean,
and South Asia. He has written Self-Nation, Text in Salman Rushdie’s
Midnight’s Children (2004) and Postcolonial Literature and the Impact of
Literacy (2011), about the ways African and Caribbean authors understand
what they are doing when they write. His current research is on the ways
Nigerian novelists imagined the state at independence and reads African
literature as if it were political philosophy.
