Biography:

James Lannigan explores the production of cultural discourses in small-business cooperative networks by analyzing third-wave independent coffee retailers. He is currently conducting a discourse analysis on the production of online retailer identities through social media outlets and retailer webpages. Incorporating a more relational framework, James seeks to understand the extent to which retailers negotiate the tension between community building and competition in local settings as well as how the discourse of “third wave” coffee is interwoven into organizational narratives. James is also interested in how independent retailers survive against competition from larger chain retailers, and will be exploring this theme through inter-firm communication and community events.
