March 17, 2016 - 10:00 to 16:00

Sidney Smith Hall, Room 2098, UTSG

The next exciting Culinaria event in the City Food Connaught Seminar will be the Migrant Marketplaces workshop on Thursday, March 17, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, in Sidney Smith Hall, room 2098, on the St. George campus. Our visiting speakers will be Connaught postdoc Elizabeth Zanoni, Old Dominion University; Simone Cinotto, Università di Scienze Gastronomiche; Michael Innis-Jimenez, University of Alabama; and Glen Goodman, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Migrant marketplaces are urban spaces constituted by global linkages between mobile people and mobile foods. We will consider the ways in which migrants have shaped global food chains, and how in turn, commodity networks have influenced migrants’ food cultures and practices, as well as the larger urban foodways in which they are enmeshed.

Papers will be circulated in advance. Please RSVP for lunch.
