Sociology

Biography:

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology, University of Toronto. My dissertation work examines the production and reception of food discourses and digital food culture on food blogs and healthy living blogs, with a focus on Canada and the United States. This work provides theoretical development of authenticity and biopedagogy processes on these sites. As a sociologist, my research contributes to scholarly work on food, culture, health and the body. I have participated in several research studies on eating habits in Canada, and have co-authored pieces on ethical eating and vegetarianism that have been published in journals such as Sociology, Journal of Consumer Culture and the book Acquired Tastes: Why Families Eat the Way They Do (Beagan et al., 2014).
