Guest Speakers

Chang-Tai Hsieh (Keynote)

Chang-Tai Hsieh is the Phyllis and Irwin Winkelried Professor of Economics and PCL Faculty Scholar at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He conducts research on growth and development. His work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, Econometrica, and the NBER Macroeconomics Annual, among other outlets. Hsieh has been a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Banks of San Francisco, New York, and Minneapolis, as well as the World Bank’s Development Economics Group and the Economic Planning Agency in Japan. He is a Research Associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Senior Fellow at the Bureau for Research in Economic Analysis of Development, and a member of the Steering Group of the International Growth Center in London. He is the recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship, an Elected Member of Academia Sinica, and a two-time recipient of the Sun Ye-Fang Prize.

 

Ezra Oberfield

Ezra Oberfield is an Associate Professor of Economics at Princeton University. His research interests lie in the areas of macroeconomics, firm dynamics, and growth. Oberfield was formerly an economist in the Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He is a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a CESifo research network affiliate. Oberfield received a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.

 

 

 

Ana Maria Santacreu

Ana Maria Santacreu is a Research Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Saint Louis. Her areas of research are international trade, macroeconomics, economic growth, and international finance. She is also an Associate Editor at the European Economic Review and the Canadian Journal of Economics. She holds a PhD from New York University.

 

 

 

 

Michael Waugh

Michael Waugh is an Economist and Monetary Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research interests lie within the intersection of international trade, macroeconomics, and development. In 2015 he was the winner of the Bhagwati Award which was awarded by the Journal of International Economics Editorial Board for the best article published in the JIE during 2013 and 2014. He also operates the website www.tradewartracker.com providing live, visual display of international trade data.

 

 

Michael Peters

Michael Peters is an Associate Professor of Economics at Yale University and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research mostly focuses on macroeconomics, economic development and growth, and international trade. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of Mannheim and his PhD from MIT.

 

 

 

Danial Lashkari

Danial Lashkari holds the chair of White Family Assistant Professor of economics and international studies at Boston College. His research interests are on the intersection of economic growth, innovation, and international trade. He completed a PhD degree at the Harvard economics department in 2017, was a Cowles Foundation postdoctoral associate at the Yale University department of economics (2017-2018), and a Shoven/SIEPR Young Scholar at Stanford University (2021-2022).

 

 

 

Pamela Medina Quispe

Pamela Medina Quispe is an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Management Department at the University of Toronto Scarborough, cross-appointed to the Rotman School of Business. Her research interest lies on the intersection of international trade and industrial organization, with particular interest in developing economies. She holds a PhD in economics from Duke University.
