History at the University of Toronto Scarborough

Understand the present through the past as you get hands-on experience creating research questions and designing projects to answer them. You’ll gather historical evidence through archival, digital and oral sources, use it to create effective arguments and present your findings in writing, public speaking and digital formats. Our program uses a variety of approaches to build your knowledge and skills, with courses that emphasize the critical reading, research and writing abilities needed for the workforce and further studies.

Both our specialist and major have a co-op option, which let you complete paid work placements at real-world organizations as part of your studies. Our specialist program includes the language stream, where you can gain the practical skills to work with engaging historical writing and sources in their original languages. Our minor is a great option if you want to add a solid background in history to your studies, and gain unique insights into your other programs through an in-depth understanding of the past.
