Geography – Geographic Information Science at the University of Toronto Scarborough

In our minor program, you’ll gain the specific geographic information science (GIS) and cartography skills in high demand across a wide variety of job markets. Our program is designed to equip you with both the theoretical foundations and real-world skills to apply GIS methods, tools and data in your research and practical problem solving. You’ll learn to work with geographic information systems and use them to explain your results as we strengthen your abilities to work with, understand and explain empirical evidence.

Our program follows a simple yet rigorous structure: you’ll choose from a range of courses in geography, anthropology, environmental science, history, international development studies, political science and sociology, and bring your knowledge together in core GIS courses that go in-depth into spatial analysis, mapping, cartography and much more. Later in your studies you’ll complete independent research projects, and you’ll further develop your GIS skills while you create a portfolio of completed work.
